EVEN Hotels is a new midscale hotel brand launched by Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) in 2014 targeting the “healthy minded traveler”… to provide a hotel brand that gives guests, “more options to stay healthier and happier away from home”. EVEN strives to provide support for healthy lifestyles for different occasions. Rooms are configured to allow in-room workouts with in-room equipment and a cork floor workout area. Turning on the TV reveals a starting channel showing an in-room workout in progress. Several other channels are there to guide guests in their use of in-room fitness equipment to suit their particular workout need. Filtered water is available throughout the hotel including several flavored varieties in the front lobby and filtered water stations on guest floors. The gym goes far beyond the typical guest room conversion and is centrally located on the first floor of each hotel as a full size facility with best in class equipment. Hotel managers teach fitness classes and go on group runs periodically where guests are invited to join in. And the food offering at Cork & Kale (the hotel’s restaurant and market) is built to support guilt-free dining through an assortment of wellness inspired menu and grab-and-go items.
All has been well received by the public but the food offering has received the lowest ratings on surveys. As it turns out, not all guests seek to eat healthy. Some simply want a cheeseburger or something heavier and more filling. Some want something hot that’s easy to eat on the run like a breakfast sandwich or soup. Also, not all guests embrace the guest facing self-ordering point of sale technology. IHG reached out to Blue Orbit to adjust Cork & Kale’s menu offering and service flow in response to guest requests and to ensure the brand continues to distance itself from its competition. Blue Orbit collaborated with management and executives at IHG to evolve the offering, streamline through-put and sharpen Cork & Kale’s ability to deliver what guests want – all without straying from EVEN Hotels’ wellness brand promise.
